If you love displaying flowers but aren’t sure how to best care for them, we’re giving you a step-by-step guide for creating a delightful floral arrangement that lasts longer.

8 Steps for Creating Long Lasting Flower Arrangements

Once you’ve received your flowers, create a workspace where you can unpack and lay out your bundles. A surface that you don’t mind getting wet would work best.

Choose a vase to display your flowers. The size, height and shape will help determine how long each stem should be. Get creative with it, find an unusual container such as a watering can to use as a vase.

Trim at least a half inch off each stem at a 45-degree angle. Be sure to use a sharp tool like gardening sheers, a knife, or sharp heavy-duty scissors to prevent damage to the stems.

Clean up your stems by removing low hanging leaves. Leaves should not fall below the waterline of your vase as it leads to bacteria buildup and a shorter lifespan.

Once you’re ready to design your arrangement, you can use floral tape to create a grid shape across the opening of your vase. The grid helps to create slots for each stem to sit in, and ensures they stay in place. Begin to place your stems by criss crossing to create structure. Place your tallest stems like Larkspur at the very center for a dramatic look or cluster stems of the same flower to create a wildflower vibe.

Shape and fuss around with the positioning of each stem to ensure a full and even-looking arrangement.

Change the flower water every 1-2 days. This helps provide clean drinking water for your blooms while getting rid of bacteria that’s started to build up.

Be sure to keep your flowers in a cool, shady spot avoiding direct sunlight and heat. Cooler temperatures help flowers last longer.

And there you have it, with these simple tips you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful arrangement for longer!
